Today's Moon Nakshatra: How It Colors the Day You Are Having

The Moon changes nakshatra every 27 hours. That micro-transit often explains your mood better than any planet in your natal chart.

If you've ever felt your mood inexplicably shift overnight while nothing in your life changed, the most likely cause is the simplest one: the Moon changed nakshatra. Every 27 hours, on average, the Moon moves into a new lunar mansion, and its character — and yours, by extension — reshapes.

Why this micro-transit dominates

The Moon is mind. It is closest to Earth, fastest in motion, and most reactive to its surroundings. Where the Moon transits today, your mind tilts today.

Most people overweight their natal Moon (the mood they were born into) and underweight the transit Moon (the mood they're swimming through). The natal Moon is the room; the transit Moon is the weather inside the room.

Quick read for any day

  • Check today's nakshatra (any panchang shows it). Note its lord.
  • Note the natural temperament: Pushya is steady, Ashlesha is moody and serpentine, Magha is regal, Mula is uprooting, Revati is gentle.
  • Schedule the day around the temperament. Hard conversations on Pushya land; the same conversation on Ashlesha goes sideways.

The four nakshatra families to know

  • Soft (Mridu) — Mrigashira, Chitra, Anuradha, Revati. Good for negotiation, art, healing.
  • Sharp (Tikshna) — Ardra, Ashlesha, Jyeshtha, Mula. Good for cutting losses, surgery, ending what needs to end.
  • Movable (Chara) — Punarvasu, Swati, Shravana, Dhanishta, Shatabhisha. Good for travel, relocation.
  • Fixed (Sthira) — Rohini, Uttara Phalguni, Uttara Ashadha, Uttara Bhadrapada. Good for foundational starts — buying property, getting married, signing long contracts.

When the transit Moon meets your natal Moon

Once every 27 days, the transit Moon returns to your natal Moon's nakshatra. That day is your Janma Nakshatra day — a quiet personal full-circle. Many people feel an emotional lift, a clarity, or just a familiar steadiness. Use it for journaling, intention-setting, or recovering from a hard month.
