Life Path Number: The Blueprint in Your Date of Birth

Your Life Path is a single-digit number that encodes your core journey. Here is how to compute it and what 1 through 9 and master numbers mean.

Numerology has many systems, but the Life Path number is computed identically across all of them: reduce the digits of your full date of birth to a single number (or to a master number 11, 22, 33). It is the closest equivalent in numerology to your Vedic ascendant — the broad shape of your life journey.

How to compute it

Take a DOB of 14 March 1996.

  • Day: 14 → 1 + 4 = 5
  • Month: 03 → 3
  • Year: 1996 → 1 + 9 + 9 + 6 = 25 → 2 + 5 = 7
  • Sum: 5 + 3 + 7 = 15 → 1 + 5 = 6. Life Path is 6.

The 9 single-digit life paths

  • 1 — The leader. Independent, pioneering, often the first in their family to do something new.
  • 2 — The peacemaker. Diplomatic, sensitive, naturally collaborative.
  • 3 — The communicator. Expressive, creative, drawn to writing, speaking, teaching.
  • 4 — The builder. Practical, methodical, the person who actually finishes things.
  • 5 — The seeker. Restless, freedom-loving, learns through travel and variety.
  • 6 — The nurturer. Family-first, caregiver, often anchors the people around them.
  • 7 — The seeker-scholar. Introspective, analytical, drawn to philosophy and depth.
  • 8 — The executive. Material mastery, structure, money flows but tests integrity.
  • 9 — The humanitarian. Universal, compassionate, often serves a cause larger than themselves.

The 3 master numbers

Master numbers are not reduced further. They carry an extra spiritual charge — and an extra burden.

  • 11 — The visionary. Intuition turned up to a level that can be overwhelming until disciplined.
  • 22 — The master builder. Capable of large-scale, lasting work — institutions, movements, enterprises.
  • 33 — The master teacher. Rare. Service through teaching, healing, counselling.

How to use it

Life Path is a frame, not a script. Two people with the same Life Path 5 can be a travel writer and a spy. The number tells you the underlying motion (variety-seeking, freedom-driven). The chart, the upbringing and the choices fill in the form.

Pair Life Path with your Destiny number (from your full birth name) for a fuller picture. The Life Path is the road; the Destiny is the vehicle you are driving down it.
