Sarvatobhadra Chakra: The Ancient Grid Behind Modern Market Signals

A 9x9 grid maps nakshatras, syllables, and dikpalas. Financial astrologers use vedha (obstruction) patterns for sector bias.

Brihat Samhita (Varahamihira, ~6th century CE) describes the Sarvatobhadra Chakra — literally 'auspicious in all directions' — as a 9×9 grid that maps the zodiac onto a single visual surface. Modern financial astrologers in Mumbai and Chennai have adapted it as one of the cleanest tools for sector-bias forecasting.

The grid layout

  • Outer ring: 28 nakshatras, four per cardinal direction.
  • Eight direction-keepers (dikpalas) at the compass points.
  • Twelve rashis distributed in the inner ring.
  • Sanskrit consonants and vowels filling the remaining cells — used to map names onto the chakra.

Vedhas — the obstruction lines

When a transiting planet hits a nakshatra, it 'casts vedhas' — obstruction lines — to opposite or adjacent nakshatras and rashis. A vedha from Jupiter or Venus is benefic. A vedha from Saturn, Mars or Rahu/Ketu is malefic.

The native's natal Moon nakshatra becomes the home cell. Any malefic vedha to it triggers a difficult window. Any benefic vedha amplifies an easy window.

Adapting it to sectors

Each sector is mapped to one or two natural-significator planets:

  • Bank Nifty → Jupiter (treasury), Moon (liquidity)
  • IT → Mercury (computation, communication)
  • Pharma → Moon (chemistry, healing), Saturn (long cycles)
  • Oil & Gas → Mars
  • Auto → Mars (engine), Saturn (industrial)
  • FMCG → Venus
  • Metals → Mars (iron), Saturn (heavy)

How traders use it

Pre-market each day, list any vedha hits on the day's Moon nakshatra and on the lagna at market open. Match them to sectors. Take the malefic side as caution; take the benefic side as preferred long-bias.

This is one input among many. Astrology gives you a tilt, not a stop-loss. Position size accordingly, and never trade on a single chakra signal alone.
